Evolution of the monument An overview of the chapters

Chapter Overview

This list documents the key moments in the genesis of the Jerusalem Peace Monument. From the laying of the foundation stone to the most recent inauguration of peace stones, it provides a detailed insight into the various phases and events that have shaped the project. It serves as a chronicle of the encounters, celebrations, and milestones that have made the monument what it is today. The enumeration proceeds from bottom to top.

22 Stones for Peace - On Sunday, May 22, 2022, between 300 and 400 people gathered at the Friedensmal in Bensheim, often coming from far away for the event. In a four-hour celebration, 22 new peace stones were inaugurated at the memorial, representing values in togetherness.

Turning Point for Life - On May 14, 2017, Rabbi Mordechai Mendelson set the Turning Point for Life at a meeting of his congregation at the Friedensmal in Bensheim-Hochstädten. He consecrated the Turning Point and blessed the place by reading Psalm 126.

Inauguration Celebration - On September 27, 2015, the Friedensmal was inaugurated for Germany. This happened with an event within the celebration of "50 years of relations between Israel and Germany".

Encounter Fest - On May, 18, 2014 the Jewish Chabad community from Karlsruhe celebrated the festival Lag baOmer at the Friedensmal in Bensheim-Hochstädten. It was an encounter fest with local people.

Encounter Stone - On October 21, 2012, the Jerusalem Memorial Stone (with the inauguration of the whole monument in 2015 it became the Jerusalem Stone of Encounter) was inaugurated as a Border Stone. The pictures and explanations tell a parable about how to get back to the heart.

Blossom of Life - On May, 17, 2012 the Blossom of Life was inaugurated and the place was opened to the public. Here you will find pictures and texts which give a good impression about the celebration.

Psalm Hike - Hebrew psalms at the "Street of Peace". Hike from the Hochstaedter valley to the construction site of the Friedensmal (monument) on the hill.

Foundation stone - On April 26, 2010 was the laying of the foundation stone with Dean Thomas Gross. Everything started here. The whole monument has been constructed from this point.
