The Beginning of the Friedensmal

Chapter: Milestones / Foundation Stone

Laying of the Foundation Stone

On April 26, 2010, the foundation stone was laid by Dean Thomas Groß. In a steel capsule, the 1st Psalm in Hebrew was placed in the concrete under the Turning Point in the center of the still to be built Blossom of Life. From this point of reference, the whole monument - Friedensmal, Garden of Freedom and (Jerusalem) Stone of Encounter - will be measured and constructed.

Psalm 1: A Foundation of Faith

Psalm 1, serving as the cornerstone of the Friedensmal, holds profound significance in both Judaism and Christianity. It is often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Psalms' and lays the foundation for the entire Book of Psalms.

In Jewish belief, the Psalm is seen as a sort of introduction to the Torah. It praises the individual who walks in God’s ways and delights in His law. The Psalm emphasizes the importance of studying and meditating on divine teachings.

In the Christian tradition, the Psalm is often interpreted as a guide for a God-pleasing life. It contrasts the 'righteous' with the 'wicked' and highlights the significance of moral decisions in a believer’s life.

Choosing this Psalm as the cornerstone symbolizes the desire to establish the Friedensmal on a firm foundation of wisdom, justice, and spiritual alignment. It connects the project with the deepest roots of both faith traditions and underscores the universal message of peace and righteousness.
